Jason Donovan is one of the most successful singers in British history, with world sales of 13 million albums and four UK No. 1 singles Especially for You (with Kylie Minogue), Too Many Broken Hearts, Sealed With A Kiss and Any Dream Will Do. A popular actor, singer and 80s icon – Jason has clocked up countless acting and performing milestones. In 2016, he thrilled fans in the UK with his Ten Good Reasons and Greatest Hits tour – so he’s sure to be in great shape for his debut appearance at Hampton Pool.
Jason Sean Donovan was born into a show business family in Melbourne Australia on 1 June 1968. His good looks and talent made him a natural on Australian TV. His first appearances on television there included as ’I Can Jump Puddles’, ’Skyways’ and ’Gold Pennies’.

His big break came with the role of Scott Robinson in the primetime soap ’Neighbours’ which turned him into an international star gaining every Australian major award including Most Popular Actor. The series went onto to become one of the highest rating shows in the UK which led to Jason’s huge chart success within the PWL Pop era. His debut album ’Ten Good Reasons’ was the biggest selling album of 1989 with sales of 1.5 million including the duet ’Especially For You’ with Kylie Minogue and ’Too Many Broken Hearts’ which contributed in the impressive world sales of 13 million albums and 4 UK No. 1s. Music was always a constant in Jason’s career and in particular he shone in his portrayal of Joseph in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of ’Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ at London’s Palladium in 1991 selling out an 18-month run, plus a number one single and best-selling soundtrack album.

In 2003, Jason became the voice of Buzz, the popular Sony PlayStation game which went on to win the BAFTA for Best Casual and Social Game. The following year, 2004 Jason took the role of Caractacus Potts in ’Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and in 2006 took third place in ITV1’s ’I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’.

In 2007, Jason took part in the ’Concert For Diana’ at Wembley Stadium in front of a live audience of 100,000 (worldwide tv audience of over 50 million), reprising his Joseph role with former Josephs. Same year, he also wrote his bestselling autobiography, ’Between The Lines’. In the following year, 2008, Jason starred in ITV1’s docusoap ’Echo Beach’ and one year later in March 2009, began an 18 month run in the role of ’Tick’ in ’Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ in London’s West End which was met with much critical acclaim and huge box office success. In that same year, Jason began a regular Sunday slot on the award winning radio station, Heart. Jason’s all 80s show still runs between 7pm and 10pm every Sunday night.

In 2011 Angela, his partner now of 22 years, gave birth to the couple’s third child, a daughter called Molly, a sister for Jemma and Zac. In June of the same year, Jason travelled to Australia to examine his roots for the BBC TV programme, ’Who Do You Think You Are’ where he discovered his ancestry led him to the great Australian pioneer William Cox who built a crucial crossing in Australia’s Blue Mountains in 1815.

In November, Jason took up the role of ’The Artilleryman’ in ’Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War Of The Worlds’ European tour then as a new decade began, immediately began a tour as ’Captain Von Trapp’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ’The Sound of Music’ UK tour, 2011.

Continuing on to autumn 2011, we saw Jason’s welcome return to prime time television when he took part in BBC’s ’Strictly Come Dancing’. He came a respectable third with his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff and in 2012 was interviewed by Piers Morgan for his ITV1 ’Life Stories’ series.

In the same year Jason was a mentor and judge in ITV’s ’Superstar’ talent competition and returned to ’Jeff Wayne’s War Of The Worlds – The New Generation’ this time, playing the role of Parson Nathaniel.

Throughout 2013/14 Jason put his heels back on and reprised the role of ’Tick/Mitzi’ in ’Priscilla Queen of the Dessert’ for the nationwide UK tour and in November 2014 for the third and final time, toured with ’War of the Worlds’.

In 2015, Jason took the role of speech therapist, Lionel Logue in the stage adaptation of ’The Kings Speech’ for which he received rave reviews.

From September 2015 until February 2016, Jason continued his role in ’Priscilla’ then went straight into rehearsals for The Ten Good Reason’s tour. Jason and his band played 33 sold out dates throughout the UK and a plethora of 80s festivals throughout the UK and Europe throughout the summer. By popular demand, Jason plays an additional 9 UK shows in December (Ten Good Christmas Reasons!) between a run as Sam Phillips on tour with Million Dollar Quarter which runs until June 2016.

What the press says
‘…the man I saw on stage was an impressive showman.’ 21 December 2016, Steve Oliver, Nottingham Post

‘Clearly having a lot of fun on stage, his warm presence and charm were hard to resist, especially during some very amusing anecdotes between songs.’

‘The real tour de force, however, came in the second half, where Donovan proceeded to sing every song from his Ten Good Reasons album in one unbroken sequence, demonstrating not only some impressive stamina but also a genuinely impressive feat of showmanship.’
‘Jason Donovan gave an extremely entertaining – and enjoyably cheesy – throwback to the heyday of 1980s’ pop, making for a fun night for all involved.’ Robert McKelvey, yorkpress.co.uk, May 2016

‘Backed by a live band and singing without mechanical aid, Jason Donovan is no pop puppet but an entertainer at the very top of his game, taking time to talk to the crowd and introduce the songs with a little anecdote.’ Steve Oliver, nottinghampost.com, December 2106

‘…27 years after his debut album, Ten Good Reasons, it was evident that Donovan is still passionate about the music that made him a household name.’
‘…that nostalgia, those memories of pure Eighties pop and dancefloor sing-alongs, that continue to endear Donovan to his fanbase.’ Rachel Ward, The Telegraph, March 2016

‘Armed with a cheeky smile and sporting a sparkly black jacket, the immediately recognisable sound of 1989’s ’When You Come Back to Me’ got the Lowry on its feet, to which they remained until the end of the show.’ Nathan Smith, Quaysnews.net, March 2016

Noel McCalla
Noel McCalla has worked extensively across the British music scene. He describes his genre as ‘soul, jazz and acoustic songs with a touch of blues, reggae and rock’, so he’s more than qualified to front the dance-til-you-drop City Funk Orchestra.

McCalla’s musical career kicked off with the Black and White Notes, who eventually supported The Shadows. He then joined the legendary pub-rock soul band, Moon and was a guest frontman with highly regarded jazz-rock outfits Morrissey-Mullen and Mezzoforte. He was also a main vocalist with Manfred Mann’s Earth Band for 18 years.

‘ – it’s an overused adage, but this bloke really could sing the London phone directory and make it interesting.’ Darious Drew, getreadytorock.me.uk

‘… he’s absolutely astonishing and has a genuinely soulful intensity’ Steve Jenner, musicriot.co.uk

Imaani
Imaani’s career spans from 1998’s Eurovision stardom with Where Are You? to at least seven world tours as a featured vocalist with iconic jazz/funk band Incognito. She has also collaborated with Michael Bolton, Gloria Gaynor and Chaka Khan.

She scored a dance hit in 2011 with Found My Light and she has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues such as Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club, Switzerland’s Montreaux Jazz Festival and New York’s The Filmore. Imaani’s voice is powerful, smoky and charismatic in the soul/R&B tradition and we look forward to her unleashing her extraordinary talent on the Hampton Pool stage.

‘One of the most powerful and memorable voices which has graced so many Incognito albums.’ Bluey
